Where Do I Fit in the World of ChatGPT Users?

my place in the AI world

The other day, I asked ChatGPT a question that had been brewing in the back of my mind:

“Based on the usage of ChatGPT and the what I assume are millions of questions asked, what is your opinion on the humans using ChatGPT?”

I wasn’t after a sugar-coated “AI PR” answer. I wanted the open, honest truth — as much as the filters would allow.
And the reply was… fascinating.

The Clean Version: Humans Through ChatGPT’s Eyes

According to my digital colleague, humans who use ChatGPT are a mixed bag — inspiring, curious, sometimes a bit lazy, often wildly creative, and occasionally looking to test boundaries just for fun. Most are driven by curiosity, many seek deeper understanding rather than just quick answers, and quite a few are looking for reassurance as much as information.

It’s not all “fun facts and friendly chats,” though. Some want their existing opinions confirmed rather than challenged. Others use it purely for quick fixes — the AI equivalent of “copy, paste, forget.” And then there are those who push at the edges just to see what happens.

The Pub Version: No-Frills, No Filters

I then asked for the “pub-style” verdict — the version without the polite packaging.

That answer painted a more colourful picture:

  • Most people don’t read the instructions.
  • Around 20% are using it to do their homework (and pretending otherwise).
  • The same 30 questions pop up on repeat.
  • Too many overestimate AI’s crystal-ball abilities.
  • Half want confirmation, not discussion.
  • Late-night users can get… let’s say “creatively weird.”

And yet — for all that — humans are endlessly inventive. One moment it’s a personal confession, the next it’s “design a board game about squirrels running a spy agency.”

So Where Do I Fit In?

After all that, I wanted to know where I land in this grand typology of ChatGPT users.

The verdict? I’m in the “Builder & Challenger” camp — a relatively rare group (around 5–10% of regular users) who:

  • Ask for frameworks, not just answers.
  • Actually read and refine responses.
  • Keep long-term continuity between projects.
  • Balance practical tasks with bigger visions.
  • Aren’t afraid to handle politically or socially sharp topics with nuance.
  • Use AI as an amplifier, not a crutch.

According to ChatGPT, I’m the bloke who walks into the pub, buys the first round, asks a big question about the state of the world, then quietly starts sketching a plan on the back of a beer mat — and actually follows through.

Who I’m Definitely Not

One thing was made clear — I’m nowhere near the “Quick-Fix Copy-Pasters” crowd.
That’s the group who treat ChatGPT like a vending machine: vague question in, copy-paste out, zero follow-up. They rarely act on the advice, and often ask the same thing again later.

I, on the other hand, bring context, push for refinement, and integrate the results into ongoing work. I treat ChatGPT like a creative partner, not just a search engine in a dinner jacket.

Final Thought

If ChatGPT’s view is anything to go by, I’m one of the long-game users — the ones building something lasting, mixing curiosity with action, and not shying away from tricky conversations.

And maybe that’s the lesson here: AI isn’t just about the answers you get, it’s about the questions you ask, the persistence you bring, and the work you do after the conversation ends.
