It was about <strong>reclaiming full sovereignty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Brexit We Got<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>But what we ended up with is\u2026 blurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Northern Ireland Protocol<\/strong> kept parts of the UK effectively in the EU\u2019s orbit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Regulatory alignment<\/strong> persists in many sectors, limiting our ability to diverge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The House of Lords and many MPs<\/strong> openly opposed to Brexit slowed or watered down its implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even trade \u2014 the great prize of Brexit \u2014 hasn\u2019t delivered as promised. Deals with Australia and others exist, but <strong>the big wins<\/strong> (like a U.S. trade deal) never came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, we\u2019ve been left in a halfway house: <strong>no longer in the EU but not fully out of it either.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Cost of Half Measures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s the sting:<br><strong>When you leave halfway, you get the pain but not the full freedom.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Businesses face <strong>extra trade friction<\/strong> without the compensating benefits of a fully independent regulatory regime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Immigration policy<\/strong> has been reshaped \u2014 but boat crossings and net migration figures show we haven\u2019t regained the control promised.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The government blames \u201cBrexit,\u201d but much of the pain comes from <strong>political compromises<\/strong> that left us tethered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So Was Brexit the Problem?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ask me: <strong>No.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Brexit wasn\u2019t the problem.<br>The problem was that <strong>Westminster never delivered the Brexit people voted for.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of a decisive break and a clear new direction, we got years of political infighting, concessions to Brussels, and a culture among parts of Parliament and the Lords that saw Brexit as something to be \u201cmanaged,\u201d not embraced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What a Full Brexit Could Look Like<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It isn\u2019t too late to finish the job:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rewrite the deal:<\/strong> Replace the Protocol with a settlement that restores the UK\u2019s internal market integrity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Slash unnecessary EU-era regulations:<\/strong> Create a nimble legal framework fit for the UK economy, not 27 others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Drive real trade independence:<\/strong> Prioritise strategic deals with markets where the EU struggles to move quickly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short: <strong>use the sovereignty we voted for<\/strong> instead of treating it like a problem to be managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Thought<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Brexit was about freedom. But freedom only works if you use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we want the benefits of leaving, we can\u2019t sit halfway out the door.
